✨ Levels of Editing – Tailored to Your Project Needs

Every piece of writing is different—and so is the level of support it requires. If you have brought me into your project after much of the content has already been written. My first step is to determine the scope and depth of editing needed.

This involves identifying whether your content needs:

Each level of editing takes a different amount of time and has a different pricing structure. Below, I have broken down the three main levels of editing I offer, what is included in each, and what you can expect as a result.

✦ Level 1 – Light Editing (Proofreading)

​

This is a surface-level review, also known as verification editing. It is typically done just before publication to catch minor issues in:

• Spelling mistakes and grammar errors

• Punctuation and capitalisation

• Consistency in tables, lists, and formatting

• Typos and verb tenses

• If your content is nearly complete, this service ensures it is free of distracting errors.

✦ Level 2 – Medium Editing (Copy/Line Editing) Sfep: Structural

​

This edit digs deeper, making sure your copy is written in a single voice, for a specific audience, and serves a clear purpose. In addition, is accurate, correct and consistent.

Includes everything from Light Editing, plus:

​

• Fact-checking of names, dates, figures, URL

• Accuracy of abbreviations and acronyms

• Correct gender pronouns

• Clarity in paragraph structure and logical flow

I will also evaluate:

​

• Tone and voice consistency

• Word choice and conciseness

• Overuse of phrases or jargon

• Readability and logical structure

• Appropriate word use

• Overuse of certain words or phrases

• Lack of transitional phrases

It's ideal when your content needs refinement to better engage readers and meet business objectives.

✦ Level 3 – Heavy Editing (Content editing) Sfep: Substantive/development Editing

​

This level is a deep dive into your writing. It includes everything in Light and Medium editing, plus:

​

• Structural overhaul of sentences and paragraphs

• Enhanced clarity, tone, and focus

• Rewriting where necessary for flow and logic

• Possible additional research and full reorganisation

This will require checking for errors in:

 

• Generalisations

• Globalisation

• Vagueness

• Consistency

• Flow

• Clarity

• Tone

• Focus

• Tenses

• Structure of sentences and paragraphs

• The organisation of the whole copy

It may require a whole new rewrite and more research

 

If your content is complex, inconsistent, or has multiple contributors, this editing level ensures cohesion and professionalism.

🧾 The Editing Process – What to Expect

​

🔄 First Draft – Client Feedback

​

After receiving the edited copy, you will review the first draft and share feedback. Please keep in mind:

​

• The writing is tailored for your audience, not your internal team.

• I'll need one point of contact within your organisation to streamline communication.

• Open collaboration is essential—we will work together to perfect the copy.

📥 Client Revisions

​

• You will have five working days to review the first draft and request changes. If I do not hear from you within that period, I will assume the copy has been approved.

​

​

✍️ Second Draft

​

• Once I receive your changes, I will revise the draft within two working days and send it back. If I believe a suggested change may not serve your audience well, I will explain why and let you decide.

​

​

✍️ Third & Final Draft

​

• After your second round of feedback (due within two working days), I will prepare the final version.

• Further changes after this final draft may incur additional charges, depending on the level of editing needed.

​

💡 Note: I offer three full rounds of revisions at no extra charge, which is usually more than enough to complete your project to a publish-ready standard.
